Watts Renovation Bid Update

Monday, June 20, 2022

On May 20, the Glencoe Park District received bids for the Watts renovation project, scheduled to start over the summer. The budget for
renovation was $5 million, with $2.5 million in funding from a State of Illinois PARC grant and $2.5 million in Glencoe Park District non-referendum
bonds. Due to rising costs and inflation, the bids came back nearly $1 million over budget. The Board of Commissioners chose to put most of the
project on hold until 2023 with hopes that the bidding climate will be more favorable in the winter.

Inside renovations include activating unused space for programming and events, equating to 2,318 additional square feet of accessible multi-use
indoor space. An elevator and other ADA-access requirements will be added to ensure everyone can use the facility regardless of ability. Outside,
the rink will have new dasher boards installed and the rink footprint will be expanded.

While many of the trade packages came back at costs higher than anticipated, the bid package for the ice rink dasher boards came back favorably. This portion of the project can be completed with minimal impact on other portions of the project, so the Board of Commissioners opted to move forward with new dasher boards in the fall. The installation will be completed before Watts opens for the season on November 25. Construction should not impact the 2022-23 skating season.
