Sailing at Glencoe Boating BeachAdjacent to Glencoe Beach, the Perlman Boating Beach offers sailing for all ages and boat storage. The beach has 200 rack spaces for small 10-foot to 14-foot sailboats, windsurfers or kayaks. Approximately 75 sand spaces are also available for larger sailboats up to 18 feet long.

Rack space is available for the 2012 season. Priority is given to 2011 renters until Friday, April 13, at 5 p.m. Starting April 16, new applications will be accepted. New applicants may pick up an application at the Glencoe Park District office, or call the Park District office at 847-835-3030 to be put on the mailing list.

The boat storage fee includes one boat space, sail and personal locker, and up to four family beach passes. There is an additional charge of $10 for each beach token needed after the first four.

Sailing Lessons

Learn how to sail from our qualified sailing instructors! Glencoe Park District offers Beginner, Intermediate, and Intro to Racing for children in grades 4-8. New this year is Adult Sailing and the Jr. Harbor Guard Program for ages 13-15! Click here to view class information.

Private Sailing Lessons

Receive private sailing instruction from our current sailing staff! Lessons are given in 1-hour increments. Learn boat rigging, boat safety, sail trim, boat handling, and racing techniques. From novice to advanced, all are welcome from age 6 and older. For more information, call (847) 835-8910. Please allow five days for scheduling.

Sailing at Glencoe Boating Beach

Sailboat Rentals

Glencoe Park District has four Barnett 1400 Sailboats available for hourly rentals. Youth ages 6-15 must be accompanied by an adult on the boat during rentals. No children under age 5 are allowed on rental crafts.

Check-out Tests: Sailboat renters must pass a checkout test prior to their first rental of the season. They receive a sailing condition rating, which is stored on file for future rental reference. Checkout tests are by appointment only.

A credit card deposit and a photo I.D. is required prior to rental and may be applied to the rental fee upon return to beach. For availability please call (847) 835-1185.

Weekdays: $25/hour (Hobie: $35/hour)
Weekends: $40/hour (Hobie: $50/hour)

Skipper Rentals

If it’s your first time on a sailboat, head out on Lake Michigan with our trained sailing staff! Learn some basic sailing skills and useful land/lake information. Then just sit back and enjoy the wonders of the sailing experience.

Saturday & Sunday only: $75/hr

Kayak Rentals

We have six kayaks ready and waiting for you! One- and two-person kayaks are available to rent on an hourly basis. Renters are required to pass a proficiency test prior to their first rental of the season, and life jackets must be worn at all times. Youth ages 6-15 must be accompanied by an adult while using the kayak. No children under age 5 are allowed on rental crafts. NOTE: No kayak rentals on July 7, 21; August 4, 11. Please check the weather hotline, (847) 835-8910 for small craft advisories.

Weekdays: $20/hour
Weekends: $25/hour or $40 for a maximum of three hours

Kayak Excursions

Join us for an afternoon kayak paddle along the beautiful shorelines of Glencoe, Winnetka, and Highland Park! Each two-hour excursion is led by Park District staff. Kayaks, paddles and life jackets are provided. Limited space per session; sign up early. Youth ages 6-15 must be accompanied by an adult in a double kayak. No children under age 5 are allowed on rental crafts.

Saturdays, July 21 and August 4 • 3-5 p.m.
Fee: $60/2 people in a double kayak (max. 3 double kayaks)
        $40/1 person (max. 5 single kayaks)
        $20/personal kayak (max. 5 personal kayaks)

NOTE: If wave height exceeds one foot, the session will be cancelled. An additional warning of risk/waiver and release form must be signed.
