Glencoe Park District was organized in 1912.

The limestone beach house and halfway house were built in 1928.

Beginning in 1933, the Park District and school district developed a supervised recreational program.

In 1978, the Park District moved to the Community Center located at 999 Green Bay Rd, formerly North School, through a lease agreement with the Glencoe Board of Education.

Watts Center was renovated in 2000-2001. Two new, refrigerated outdoor ice rinks were installed. An indoor public viewing area and new program room were added to the Watts Center building.

In 2005, the Park District rededicated Shelton Park and the Phil Thomas Memorial Playground. This project was made possible in part through a $327,000 grant from the State of Illinois.

In 2008, after a summer of temporarily working from Watts, Glencoe Park District moved back to 999 Green Bay Rd. and into a newly renovated Community Center, now named Takiff Center.
