The American Academy for Park and Recreation Administration (AAPRA), in partnership with the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), is pleased to announce Glencoe Park District as a finalist for the 2018National Gold Medal Awards for Excellence in Park and Recreation Management.

Glencoe Park District Achieves Aaa Bond Rating

The Glencoe Park District Board of Commissioners is proud to announce a bond rating improvement to Aaa by Moody’s Investors Service. The Aaa rating (the highest rating available) will allow Glencoe Park District to issue debt at the lowest possible interest rate as the organization has proven itself to be among the top tier of local governments in terms of financial strength, both in Illinois and nationally.

Honeybee Hives at Glencoe Park District

On Sunday, April 29, two honeybee hives were added to the Glencoe Park District greenhouse area, behind Jerry Reinsdorf Field.  

"As the Park District, we strive to be a leader in environmental sustainability. Our Board and staff recognize the crucial role honey bees play in our environment and the real danger that colony collapse disorder poses to the overall health of the United States as a whole. By bringing honeybees to Glencoe, we are playing an important role in maintaining and enhancing our ecosystem," said Chris Leiner, Director of Parks.

Renew Your Glencoe Beach Pass Online

Glencoe Beach season passes go on sale today at the Takiff Center. The Early Bird Discount on season passes will be available April 2-May 9, 2018.  


Passes may also be renewed online here. Photos need to be taken of each passholder, so first-time buyers must purchase their pass in person. Photos may be taken at the Takiff Center in advance or at Glencoe Beach when open for the season.

Boston Marathon Challenge

Complete 26.2 miles (or more) on our Precor cardio machines during the month of April to win! When you use your Preva card at Glencoe Fitness, your miles will automatically be entered in the Boston Marathon Challenge. Not a member? Visit the Takiff Center to pick up a free 7-day Glencoe Fitness pass!  

Leaders will be posted weekly at Glencoe Fitness. The person who logs the most miles in the month of April will win a Glencoe Beach pass!

Park District & Village Began Work on Green Bay Trail SOSA (South of South Avenue) Restoration

Under the supervision of three arborists, crews from the Glencoe Park District and the Village of Glencoe began removing invasive species (buckthorn and poison ivy) today from the “SOSA” section of the Green Bay Trail (the area south of South Avenue).  The project, approved by the Glencoe Park District Board of Commissioners and the Village of Glencoe Board of Trustees, is a partnership program led by the Friends of the Green Bay Trail.

Greenbay Trail SOSA (South of South Avenue) Restoration
In partnership with the Village of Glencoe and the Glencoe Park District, the Friends of the Greenbay Trail are now embarking on the next phase of restoration on the Green Bay Trail.  “SOSA” is the area south of South Avenue to the Community Garden.  In January 2018, Park District crews will begin removing the invasive buckthorn to prepare the site for new native trees, shrubs, wildflower, and grasses.

As announced in October, the Village of Glencoe, Sustainability Task Force, District 35 and the Glencoe Park District are working in partnership with the Active Transportation Alliance to develop the Village’s first community-wide Active Transportation Plan (ATP). Once complete, the plan will propose a network of safe and accessible streets that connect cyclists and pedestrians to popular community destinations in a way that accommodates the needs of all ages and ability levels.
