Lincoln & Crescent Playground now Duke Park

Tuesday, September 17, 2019

The playground at the corner of Lincoln and Crescent Drive is getting a new name.

At the September 17 Board meeting, commissioners unanimously accepted a generous donation from the family of Sherri Takiff Zirlin for the park. The space will now be called Duke Park, in honor of Sherri’s beloved Yorkie Pomeranian.

The name Duke Park came from Sherri’s children, who came up with the name while on vacation. “Sherri and Duke were inseparable,” said husband Todd Zirlin. “It’s something to keep her memory going in the town she loved so much.”

The new Duke Park will include a hand-cranked train, group swings, an interactive water feature, plus slides, climbers, and play panels with a poured-in-place safety surface. Construction of the park, which is part of the Connect Glencoe project, is expected to start in the spring and be completed by fall.

A dedication will be held once Duke Park is completed.
