Fireworks Rescheduled

Friday, April 16, 2021

The annual fireworks celebration is a collaborative effort among the Glencoe Park District and the Village of Glencoe. Together, the decision has been made to cancel the 2021 Fourth of July Fireworks Celebration traditionally held at Lakefront Park. The Park District is still planning to offer some smaller activities during the day on July 4, including the popular Preschool Games. Glencoe Beach will be open to season pass holders on July 4. Other events and activities will be announced soon.

The fireworks celebration requires a number of contracted services, as well as permits, to be secured months in advance of the event. The committee explored modifications to the event to adhere to possible mitigations, including reservations for designated spots and a drive-in event. However, it was determined, based on the historically large crowd, not only at Lakefront Park but also in the surrounding areas, controlling the attendance in any alternative format would not be possible. Due to the current mitigations imposed by the pandemic and the uncertainty of whether or not the mitigations would be lifted at the time of the event, the difficult decision has been made to cancel the evening July 4th events at Lakefront Park. All those involved in the planning share the community’s disappointment with this decision. We were hopeful that this holiday tradition would be possible, but the decision needed to be made with the information known at this time.

However, the Park District is planning a fireworks show with live music on Friday, September 3 at Lakefront Park. The event will kick off Labor Day weekend, which we hope will be a safe time to celebrate together. Glencoe Beach will be closed on Friday, September 3 to allow for the safe preparations of the fireworks show. The Beach will be open to season pass holders Labor Day weekend (September 4-6).
